Equal Opportunities Policy

Statement of Policy

We are an equal opportunities employer. The aim of this policy is to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less than favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, disability, ethnic or national origin, religion, race, colour, nationality, marital status, sexuality, responsibility for dependents and age.

Breeches of this policy will lead to disciplinary proceedings and, if appropriate, disciplinary action.

We will ensure that the policy is circulated to all responsible for our recruitment including any agencies and a copy will be made available for all employees and applicants for employment.

Recruitment, Selection and Promotion

The Company will aim to elicit the widest possible response when advertising vacancies; it will avoid the use of terminology suggesting vacancies are open to persons of only one sex, race or particular marital status. In the selection process the Company will aim to use criteria clearly identified as being directly related to both job and person specifications.

The Company is commitment to observe as far as possible the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Codes of Practice for Employment, Equal Pay, and Services, Public Functions and Associations.

The Company is commitment to comply with the following Acts, including any subsequent amendments;

When filling a vacancy through any agency, clear instructions will be given to accept applications from all groups, irrespective of sex, marital status, disability, colour, creed, race, ethnic or national origin.

All adverts should include the phrase “Astleys is an equal opportunities employer”.

The Company aims to promote an individual on the basis or his/her specific aptitude, skills, knowledge and ability to perform a job effectively. Those involved in the selection process for promotion will ensure that it is based on criteria clearly identified as being directly related to both job and person specifications.

All employees will be given equality of opportunity within the Company’s service and will be encouraged to progress within the organisation. Staff will receive ongoing training and the Company will ensure that all training is provided on an equal opportunities basis.

All staff involved in employment procedures will be given a copy of this policy and if necessary receive any appropriate training.

Additional Provisions

The Company policy is to review and assess all employment policies, procedures and conditions of employment on a regular basis including its disciplinary and grievance procedures. The Company will continue to carry out such reviews and to ensure equal and fair opportunity is provided for.

Responsibility and Accountability

It is the responsibility of every employee in the Company to ensure that the equal opportunities policy is implemented and the spirit of the policy be adopted throughout the Company.

The Directors will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the equal opportunities policy and for making recommendations and investigations where appropriate.

The Company is committed to making this policy fully effective.
